Traditionally, our primary activity has involved managing a portfolio of retail properties. Our main focus, initially at least, was city centres. After Redevco became independent, the emphasis within the portfolio gradually shifted. Market conditions change; so too do our clients’ needs.

Retail companies need to be able to respond dynamically to what consumers want. Retail chains might find they need to relocate from urban centres to more peripheral locations. The ideal store size is continually changing too. This is something of which we are acutely conscious, so we ensure our international real estate portfolio is always up-to-date and relevant to the needs of retailers.

Development
Project development has become an integral part of our real estate activities. Retailing-related projects are our main focus, enabling us to respond even more effectively to the needs of international clients. In our project development activities the users’ needs always play a central role. Project development is not an end in itself. Real estate does not acquire added value until functionality and the needs of users are perfectly aligned. By developing strong concepts and a recognisable design, we always achieve vital added value for the end user.

The basic elements of project development are affinity with urban design, architecture and technical expertise. Insight into the market and the needs of users are also essential for success. We develop real estate ourselves and stay involved with the project, for decades in some cases. This engenders trust and provides an opportunity to make our knowledge and expertise available to our clients along the entire value chain.
