History
A “young” Organization with a rich history
For 150 years the retail company C&A managed its real estate activities itself, before the decision was taken in 1999 to accommodate these activities in an independent entity: Redevco. Since 2001 Redevco has been owned by COFRA Holding AG, a Swiss-based holding company. The COFRA Group holds companies in Europe, Asia, North and Latin America,the activities of which include retail, real estate, corporate investments, financial services and renewable energy.
In 1861 Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer opened their first clothing store in the Friesian town of Sneek, in the Netherlands, marking the birth of a worldwide chain of C&A fashion stores. As the fashion enterprise grew, a unique real estate portfolio grew with it. Right from the start the acquisition, development and management of the properties housing the stores was carefully kept separate from the retail organization.
