Redevco Spain & Portugal signed a lease agreement with IKEA for one of the properties in the centre of Madrid. IKEA is planning to open a second city store in Madrid. The property, covering 2,300 sq. m. area, is divided in four floors and it is located in the popular “Barrio de Salamanca” district.
According to IKEA consumers are getting used to having purchases delivered to the home following the rise of online shopping, so the Swedish furniture retailer is investing in e-commerce and services. The shop will provide IKEA customers with a unique IKEA brand experience, and serves as a place to experiment with new concepts such as pick-up-and-order points and city-center showrooms. The store in the Calle Goya will be focused on showcasing living rooms as IKEA’s own research shows that living rooms are by far the largest space in Spanish homes and considered the most important one in the house. In addition, users will be able to make inquiries about and buy any furniture or accessories from the whole IKEA range from this store, to be delivered at home or picked up at the same store. IKEA is convinced that this shop will inspire its customers with ideas and solutions on how to decorate “the IKEA way”.
