Düsseldorf, 30 October 2019 – “When tomorrow, Thursday, October 31, 2019, New Yorker and Woolworth open their doors in Bielefeld, this means that the building in the Bahnhofstrasse is not only fully let, but also fully operational”, says Lars Heese, Managing Director of Redevco Services Deutschland GmbH. The Pan-European real estate investment manager had the building in the Bahnhofstrasse 23, formerly known as “SinnLeffers house”, comprehensively modernised in 2017 and 2018, including adding a natural stone facade. The neighbouring building in Arndtstraße 2b was demolished and newly built.
Fashion retailer New Yorker and the promotional department store Woolworth, will occupy approximately 2,000 m² and 2,100 m² respectively, spread across the ground and first floors. The building is also home to sporting goods supplier Decathlon (about 2,100 m² in the basement), drugstore chain Müller (about 3,250 m² in the basement, ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor), Easy Fitness (2nd floor) and the restaurateur Hans im Glück (about 260 m² of dining area plus outdoor catering in the Arndtstraße).
“We are proud that we managed to turn a “Big Box department store” into a fully let multi-use and multi-tenant asset which better fits the current era, “explains Heese. “And with Hans im Glück and Woolworth, the city of Bielefeld can add two new brands to its retail and gastronomic offering.”
A few weeks ago, the property had been awarded with a BREEAM “Excellent” certificate. Only four more retail properties in Germany have received an “Excellent” BREEAM rating – one of them is ALEA 101 at the Alexanderplatz in Berlin, which is also managed by Redevco.
