Brussels, 22 March 2017 – Redevco, the pan European retail real estate specialist, will start the construction of its retail park in Ternat by the end of this month. The project aims to obtain a sustainable BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Filip de Bois, Portfolio Director at Redevco Belgium: “Today sustainability is an important topic for both investors and retailers. We have made an ambitious BREEAM rating a priority for this project. In order to meet this objective, a close cooperation with all stakeholders is vital. This project will therefore also be a good opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the future tenants.” The project is all about sustainability and aims to obtain a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. This will require various efforts in the areas of ecology, energy, management, transport,… It means for instance: higher insulation standards, recycle demolition materials, energy efficient installations, safe cycling infrastructure, green roofs and outdoor terraces for shop staff. Also the building materials will be selected -where possible- according to the Cradle to Cradle™ principle. The retail park is located on Morettestraat near the exit of motorway E40 (Brussels-Ghent), where currently Brico Plan-it is situated. The redevelopment of the former IKEA-site includes a new store for Brico Plan-it and 13 additional medium-sized retail units. There will be a very diverse retail offer, including fashion, home decoration, cosmetics, a restaurant and a supermarket. There will also be more than 900 free parking spaces. Brico Plan-it will remain open during the construction works.
