Bordeaux, Promenade Saint-Catherine

In the historic city centre of Bordeaux we have developed a large-scale urban project, transforming an abandoned industrial site into a pleasant pedestrian district where life is organised around retail, leisure and housing. Promenade Sainte-Catherine is located right at the junction of rue Sainte Catherine and rue Porte, Bordeaux’s busiest high streets. From design to construction, we integrated the concept of sustainability to all of the processes to ensure a clean site during and beyond the construction phase. This project combines respect for the environment and energy efficiency with an integrated architectural setting that adds value to the city.

Eindhoven, 18 Septemberplein

In 2020 we finished the redevelopment of our 9,000 m2, four story C&A building at 18 Septemberplein, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. With glass boxes at 5.5 meters wide, 7 meters high and weighing 3000kg each, the type and scale of glass facade construction at our 18 Septemberplein renovation has never before been realised in the Netherlands. UNStudio was invited to restore and connect this historical building to its existing urban context.

Redevco used the renovation of the old department store as an opportunity to implement sustainability measures and strives for a BREEAM-Excellent certification. Sustainability measures that have been taken are the installation of solar panels, green on the roof and facade, and the use of energy efficient escalators and elevators.

Rotterdam, Donner building

Redevco started construction works of a monumental property in the city centre of Rotterdam aiming to turn it into a modern, mixed-use concept. The building with four main storeys has a special split-level structure creating ten individual floors within.

The architectural plans, created by architects Wessel de Jonge, specialised in post-war, monumental buildings, and Dunnett Craven, a retail specialist, provide for a multi-use of the near to 5,500 sqm of floorspace. By placing escalators outside the structure, the enormous rooftop terrace on the second floor will become directly accessible. This enables dividing the property into retail units on the one hand, to be situated in the basement and on the ground and first floors (3,900 sqm), and F&B on the other hand to be located on the second floor and upper flours (1,500 sqm). Transforming the traditionally single tenant property into a multi-tenant and multi-purpose building, perfectly fits Redevco’s strategy to focus on and to create places that combine a mix of functions: quality destinations where people want to live, work and play.
