KfW-55 Standard: Sustainability in Building Efficiency

Redevco Germany reopened the retail park in Dortmund-Aplerbeck in July 2024. Following the acquisition of the property in November 2021, a comprehensive redevelopment project was initiated. This included energy-efficient upgrades to meet the KfW-55 standard and a restructuring of the space layout, with partial repurposing of areas previously used by the anchor tenant until 2022.

The new anchor tenant, Edeka Marktkauf, now occupies 7,850 m², with a long-term commitment to the location. The restructuring also created new rental units for businesses such as, dm, and retailers like Tedi, Ernsting’s, Woolworth, Action, and Zoo & Co. Aldi expanded its rental space to nearly 1,800 m² and also extended its lease long-term. A small food court has also been added to the center. This expansion is specifically aimed at optimizing the tenant mix and increasing the dwell time of our visitors.

On the first floor, formerly used as Real’s exhibition space, Basic Fit opened a fitness studio covering almost 2,200 m², while Decathlon expanded its first-ever German store by around 400 m².

In total, the property now accommodates approximately 45 tenants, offering a significantly more diversified tenant mix. Additionally, photovoltaic systems were installed on the roofs, generating 3.5 MWp of electricity, providing tenants with affordable power. The result is a sustainable property with a broad range of offerings. To further enhance convenience and promote eco-friendly mobility, we’ve also introduced electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the center. These additions are designed to encourage longer visits, increase foot traffic, and reinforce our commitment to environmental responsibility.
